three boys stand near barbed wire fence
Security in the Camps ﷯ The camps were constructed quickly in 1942 and were designed after military barracks. Most of them were surrounded by tall barbed-wire fences and they all had armed guards posted in watchtowers and around the perimeter. Unfortunately, shootings did occur, usually with internees trying to leave the boundaries of the camp. Overall, seven were shot and killed by guards throughout the camps.
